e believe that the best way to help people, is to enable them to help each other. karmist is a mobile app that does exactly this, it connects people who need help with those who want to help. In doing so, karmist redefines social networking to something more meaningful by creating tangible connections which result in tangible good.

The idea for karmist came about after Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston when our founder attempted to organize a boat rescue party from his hometown of Austin. However, it became quickly apparent that coordinating these efforts was exceedingly difficult because there was no good platform to connect the people who needed help with those who wanted to help. Inspired to change this, our founder reached out to some friends from Silicon Valley and together they decided to form karmist with the following core mission:

“to create a positive & tangible impact on the world by helping people help each other”

At karmist, we believe that by unleashing and enabling the desire for people to help each other, we can have a transformative effect at improving livelihoods in our communities and around the world. Using karmist is as easy as using a ridesharing app and connecting with others on karmist is a fun way to make your world a little bit better while also making meaningful new friendships. Available for both iOS and Android, download it today and become a karmist!

The Team

Tommy Huynh
My story is a bit of a windy road. Out of college (Texas A&M – whoop!) I worked as an engineer at NASA in Houston. During the dotcom boom, I invested heavily and soon left NASA with starry eyed plans to buy a sailboat and sail around the world. After the dotcom bust, instead of sailing around the world in a boat, I found myself living out of my 1990 Camry in Mexico and Central America, eating peanut butter for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Fast forward a career as a travel photographer, I’ve spent most of the past 15 years as a management consultant where I helped turn around Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and small businesses. While living out of fancy hotels and going to fancy dinners as a consultant, I never forgot what it felt like to be broke, hungry, and living out of my car while also recognizing how much better off I still was than the impoverished people around me in these countries. I knew eventually I would start my own company, and that the mission would be to help out others in some way or another.

In 2017, after trying to organize a boat rescue party in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and seeing how many brave people risked their lives and spent their own money to help others, it became apparent that a peer-to-peer model for rendering assistance could be a powerful supplement to traditional centralized models. Today, my cofounders and I are dedicating ourselves to creating a platform where people can help each other that is karmist. We hope that people will join us in making step by step improvements our communities while also making new meaningful relationships along the way.
